One of my favorite writers Trinh Minh-ha observed in her book Woman Native Other that writers, when asked about motivations underneath the desire to write, usually answer that they do so to “create a world of their own, make order out of chaos, heighten their awareness of life, transcend their existences, discover themselves, communicate their feeling, or speak to others.” (p.21) I believe in all of that. Drawing as much as writing is a way to “unfold comings and goings of desire” that allow us to taste and bear witness to human experience(s) where we arrive in the world with others. In this regard, if producing for oneself is necessary to be visible, it is “a necessity and an activity in its own right, devoid of any ulterior motive or finality.” (p.21)
